On March 8, 2024, the Canadian artist and winner of the Juno Award will release a new album. She is returning to the origins of her career and this time devoting herself more to traditional Celtic music.

Altan is arguably the most iconic band working in traditional Irish music today. For the past 35 years, they have been bringing the music of their native County Donegal to the world stage. Irish-language songs and dynamic twin-fiddling, the hallmarks of Altan's sound, framework the band's newest album, aptly titled 'DONEGAL'. The album's 10 tracks pay homage to Donegal's rich musical heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant culture. The authenticity and allure of the music transports listeners to a bygone time in rural Ireland while simultaneously forging a connection between the past and modern times.

The Kraken Consort was born in 2021 from the imagination of three musicians, friends and colleagues: theorbist Bruno Helstroffer, soprano Chantal Santon Jeffery and tenor Robert Getchell, a Celtic music enthusiast. They share a taste for traditional oral and improvised music, and were keen to team up with instrumentalists with in-depth experience of traditional music: Ronan Pellen (cistre), Brewen Favrau (piper), Sylvain Barou (flute), David Lombardi (violin) and Laurène Durantel (double bass). For their debut album, Kraken Consort revisit the Irish and Scottish musical tradition.

Reflets is the debut album from Brittany musician Alan Stivell, a staunch champion of the Celtic harp, and the Celtic and Breton cultures. This cross-cultural endeavour is well flexed here on the multi-instrumentalist's 1970 debut, beginning his reputation as a progenitor of world music, with banjo, electric organ, a choir, a fiddle and more detailing the broad spectrum of Stivell's arrangements, and how they blended his Celtic roots and later foray into rock styles.

Following the critical and commercial success of his third album Chemins De Terre, Brittany musician Alan Stivell reconnected with his paternal roots by moving to the scenic French commune of Langonnet, where he produced 1974's E Langonned. The album sees a return to an acoustic foundation, due to Stivell's desire to revisit the traditional Breton music forms he championed so emphatically, and then integrate this beloved tradition back into modernism.

Alan Stivell's third album, originally released in 1973, built upon the critical adoration that predecessor Renaissance de la Harpe Celtique generated, garnered commercial love when it quickly became a Gold record, and also grew the Breton musician's artistic ambition. Chemins de Terre, retitled from Celtic Rock in Germany, features Stivell on Celtic harp, Scottish bagpipes and more, musicians like Marie Yacoub on spoons and vocals, and Breton pipe band Bagad Bleimor.

A master and champion of the instrument (as well as one for his native Celtic and Breton hinterlands), Alan Stivell pioneered a new wave of fondness for the Celtic harp, and Celtic rock as a whole subsequently. His second album Renaissance de la Harpe Celtique, described as "one of the most beautiful and haunting records ever made" by music journalist Bruce Elder, was Stivell's first and strongest statement on the power of the Celtic harp. The album also began the Breton musician's development of traditional Celtic and contemporary rock styles, a combination which earned the 1971 LP praise from both French and English critics, as well as awarding Stivell the Prix de l’Académie Charles-Cros.

Under a Winter's Moon features 15 seasonal songs performed by Loreena interspersed with seasonal readings by Canadian Indigenous actor and Companion of the Order of Canada Tom Jackson, Gemini Award-winning actor Cedric Smith, and Ojibway artist and flautist Jeffrey "Red" George.

Sisters Natalie (cello) and Brittany Haas (fiddle) began their musical lives together, filling their childhood home with Bach suites and Old-Time tunes alike. Following on their impressive debut album [*Ex]tradition*, the Curious Bards—an early-music ensemble founded by violinist Alix Boivert in 2015—continue to explore material from the Scottish and Irish folk traditions preserved in 18th-century publications. This new collection of airs and dances is a chance to discover more of this fascinating repertoire, in which the distinctions between serious music and popular inspiration need no longer apply.

Parallel Dreams captures harpist/vocalist Loreena McKennitt at her absolute finest. Fully immersed in the Celtic style, this London, Ontario, performer's voice is lush and layered in warm harmonies, soaring overtop equally beautiful instrumentation. Flowing between traditional ("Annachie Gordon") and original ("Dickens' Dublin") fare, McKennitt slows down time and relaxes furrowed brows on this disc by staying true to her red-headed roots. Subsequent discs tend to experiment more with tangos and uptempo melodies; Parallel Dreams, however, is one long, luscious lullaby.
