Previously unreleased and captured in 1973, "New Dawn" by the Pat Smythe Quartet offers a rare glimpse into a pivotal moment in jazz fusion history, particularly for fans of guitarist Allan Holdsworth. Recorded across two dates in France, the eight-track album showcases the virtuosic quartet at the intersection of jazz fusion, jazz rock, and Latin American influences, featuring an early and electrifying performance by Holdsworth, a pioneer of the genre.

Along with Holdsworth, this amazing performance features Allan playing with his Trio, featuring the late Dave Carpenter on bass and Gary Novak on drums, who also contributes to the liner notes for this release. The performance of Warsaw Summer Jazz Days '98 was beautifully recorded, filmed, and originally aired on Polish Television. The sound quality of both the audio and video is amazing and was digitally re-mastered from the original tapes.

The double album features the guitar legend live at the 11th annual Jarasum International Jazz Festival in Gapyeong-Gun, South Korea, on 5 October 2014.

In the '90s, it seemed that many of jazz's A&R people (as least at the major labels) were interested in either one of two things — if they weren't going after hard bop-oriented, standards-obsessed "Young Lions" in Armani suites, they were focusing on smooth jazz. Either they were looking for the next Kenny G. or the next Wynton Marsalis. That wasn't good news for fusion, which didn't get any respect from either bop snobs or NAC radio in the '90s. Nonetheless, quality fusion was still being recorded — you just had to know where to look. And one of the places to look was Lipstick Records, a small independent label that made fusion its main focus during that decade. Released in 1994, this little-known CD by drummer Andrea Marcelli is typical of Lipstick's jazz-rock output. Oneness didn't receive a lot of attention, and it was the only album that Marcelli recorded for Lipstick.

In this performance at the 1986 Deutsches Jazz Festival in Frankfurt, Germany, Allan Holdsworth is accompanied by Gary Husband on drums, Jimmy Johnson on bass and Kei Akagi on keyboards. Gary Husband also contributed some very personal liner notes to the package. The performance of Frankfurt ’86 was beautifully recorded and filmed and was originally broadcast on German Television.
