One of the all-time great urban blues records and the best-seller in the famed Delmark catalog. Hoodoo Man Blues is so full of bravado and snap it'll make you feel tough just listening to it. Not all of the Delmark titles were recorded very well, but this one certainly was. Hoodoo Man Blues, which features Buddy Guy on guitar, is not only Junior Wells' first LP appearance, it's damn near the first LP by a Chicago blues band. Chess and a few other labels had reissued 45s by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, etc., but virtually no one had tried to capture the Chicago blues sound free of the limitations of juke box/airplay promotion. Hoodoo Man Blues went a long way in the popularization of real Chicago blues and of Junior Wells.

The lustrous Chicago blues scene of the 1950s was predominated by great pianists, and Henry Gray was one of the finest. His rolling two-fisted keyboard work graced countless Chicago blues recordings during the '50s for leading labels like Chess and Vee Jay. He recorded on classic sides by Jimmy Reed, Bo Diddley, Little Walter, and Jimmy Rogers, among others. Starting in 1956, Henry spent twelve years as pianist for the legendary Howlin' Wolf. The sessions for Lucky Man, his first solo American album, were recorded in 1988, and marked something of a comeback for Henry, who had recorded only sporadically in the previous two decades. Audio magazine said that on the album, "Gray performs as if the heyday of Chicago blues never ended."

Thought they didn't make traditional Chicago blues albums worthy of the name anymore? Guess again: Primer's major-label bow is an entirely satisfying affair produced by Mike Vernon that's long on intensity and devoid of pretension. Lots of originals, a handful of well-chosen covers, and a vicious band (pianist David Maxwell and harpist Billy Branch solo stunningly) help make the set go, while Primer grabs hold of the opportunity with a vise-like grip and makes believe it's the 1950s all over again.

There was no one quite like Ronnie Lane - a talented songwriter and born entertainer he would initially find fame as part of the Small Faces. He co-wrote many of their classic 60s songs and then with the Faces some of the biggest hits of the 70s. It was Ronnie Lane with Steve Marriot who would write the Faces legendary classic Ooh La La. When Ronnie went solo it would be in Ronnie's way. The Passing Show is the stuff of musical legend, born from Ronnie's love of entertaining it was a travelling musical show performed in a Big Top with associated circus performers and financed by the money Ronnie earnt from the Faces. However it wasn't a commercial success and Ronnie signed with Island Records.

With his album, …Before The Beginning, Anthony Gomes offers a powerful collection of unplugged compositions, promising to be his most compelling work to date. Anthony delivers again in a very different way in this acoustic set! This is not the high flying electric blues a lot of AG fans have come to expect instead AG definitely brings us back to old style blues with a touch of Gospel thrown in. A very well thought out concept CD with haunting lyrics and of course Anthony's signature guitar sound!

First Blood harks back to the glory days of the '60s blues-rock boom – Mike Henderson and the Bluebloods' gritty sound is far from original, but years on the Nashville bar band circuit have honed their skills to a razor-sharp point, and the record is refreshingly raw and direct, distinguished by rock-solid musicianship.

Squarely taking in some prime Chess real estate, the third edition of the Blues series mostly spotlights such royalty as Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, and Sonny Boy Williamson. Thankfully, there's the relatively obscure likes of Washboard Sam, Jimmy Rogers, and Jimmy Witherspoon to enjoy as well. So, whether you prefer some horns-aplenty R&B touches (Little Milton) or raw juke joint harp playing (Little Walter), you will certainly appreciate this somewhat slim yet solid compilation.

Harry Manx’s life journey has taken him all over the map, both musically and literally. His ninth album, “Bread and Buddha”, is a musical meditation on the ephemeral nature of the human experience and is a culmination of thirty-five years of world exploration. Harry covers all four compass points of the world music map on this outing, from the rolling guitar groove on “Love is the Fire” and “Walking Ghost Blues”; he revisits traditional blues territory for the covers “Moon Goin’ Down” and “Long Black Veil” and blends in his trademark sensual raga flavours with “True to Yourself” and the instrumental “The Unspoken Quest”.

The Four Roosters was the legendary blues group from the early 80's where guitar phenomenon Reiersrud broke through for full. The debut recording ROOSTER BLUES he showed that he was already an exceptional talent, and the disc quickly gained cult status amongst blues enthusiasts. The energetic interaction between Reiersrud and Swedish blue champion Sven Zetterberg is historic. The album was also the debut of saxophonist Sigurd Kohn.
