Best known as the album that first brought the guitar playing talents of guitarist Steve Hillage to public prominence, Khans sole album is a splendid example of a fusion of Canterbury flavoured rock combined with jazz and space-rock influences. Originally released in 1972 by Deram records, it can now clearly be seen as the blue print for Hillage'slater solo success. Hillage has acknowledged that Space Shanty was the dry run for his classic Fish Rising album.

James LaBrie, known internationally as the vocalist for progressive metal icons Dream Theater, embarks on uncharted waters with his fourth solo album, titled 'Beautiful Shade of Grey'. The new endeavor sees him traverse personal maturation, loss, a myriad of complex relationships, and most importantly - LaBrie's burning passion for music. On paper, the latest studio offering from the Canadian singer first took shape shortly after the global pandemic began to emerge. But in reality, LaBrie formed a bond with his fellow collaborator, bassist Paul Logue, nearly a decade earlier. On 'Beautiful Shade of Grey', the end goal isn't creating something that meets a certain genre characterization, but rather being informed by decades of finding beautiful expression across a wide swath of musical artists, and knowing that veering away from familiar habits is a part of creative growth.

Light plays Art-Rock with influences of Ekseption and Nice and integrates jazzy brass elements like Colosseum and Latin-American percussion work similar to Santana. Light were formed in the town of Gouda in the 1960s and toured through the provinces of the Netherlands in the late 60s. The band members were Adri Vergeer (piano, organ, mellotron, keyboards, vocals), Gerard Steenbergen (acoustic guitar), Joop Slootjes (bass), Hans de Bruin (saxophone, flute) and Sjaco van der Speld (drums, vocals). Eddy Barclay brought the band - then called "Light Formation" - to the attention of producer Bert Schouten. In 1972 "The Story of Moses" was published, having been recorded at Phonogram Studio in Hilversum…

It is odd that Bull Angus didn't make a larger impact at the time; their brand of post-psychedelic heavy blues successfully crossed between jam-happy Southern rock and budding Prog. The material was often compared to heavyweights like Uriah Heep and Atomic Rooster as well as homegrown Grand Funk Railroad, but the band's dexterity and large roster meant they could occasionally leave hardrock behind and dabble in early Crimson-style folk. Despite all this, Bull Angus never earned a cult following and has remained underappreciated to this day.

Caravan followed up their eponymous debut with the cryptically titled If I Could Do It All Over Again I'd Do It All Over You in the fall of 1970. If I Could Do It All Over Again contains significant progressions over the first album. These include the intricacy with which compositions are sculpted around some of the finest instrumental improvisation in British rock at the time – or arguably since…

The sole, eponymous album of this great progressive band was released in May 1970 by the Danish Sonet Records as a pressing of just 1000 copies. The music of Pan was an ambitious mixture of heavy rock sounds with folk, jazz and classical music and was characterized by great English (and some French) vocals from Robert Lelievre (who sadly committed suicide in 1973), fluid tasteful guitar parts, atmospheric Hammond phrases and loose, but solid rhythm section. This tightly arranged and beautifully produced LP is now regarded as one of the very best rock albums ever recorded in Denmark.

Vespero has now been around for nearly two decades, and depending on how you count, they have released in that time a dozen studio albums, or even more than two dozen, if you count also demos, live recordings and collaborative efforts.
On Sonĝo, Vespero are acting in a somewhat more sedate fashion. The total freak-out space rock outbursts are now a thing of the past. The quintet has evolved and matured over the years, and repeated listening to their new album shows that the psychedelic space rock origins have been augmented by elements of fusion jazz, Russian folk and progressive rock…

Very little is known about this four-piece French set who released one album at the tail end of prog's 'golden age', and then disappeared from the map. They were: Daniel Locci on drums, Jack Mlynski on guitars and vocals, Stanislas Belloc on bass and vocals, and Alain Coupel on keyboards and vocals. Some have described the album as the French "Larks' Tongues in Aspic", no doubt thanks to guitarist Mlynski's Frippian style which (precariously) straddles the line between homage and plagiarism. Alain Coupel's synth play, however, is noticeably un-Crimson like and the band does show some originality and an obvious desire for experimentation; yet the overall feel of the album is still 100% King Crimson, especially the 16-minute epic "Artcane I".

Sector 3, the third installment of Rush’s Sector series of box sets, finds the band diving headlong into the ‘80s with a more synth-oriented approach. Featuring the albums Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire, and the live album A Show of Hands, this period of Rush's career finds them focusing more on Geddy Lee’s multi-layered synthesizer excursions and finds guitarist Alex Lifeson moving into more of a support role as he begins to experiment with a more effects-heavy sound…

Former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett stepped out on his own in the late '70s with several solo releases, including Defector. The 1980 release doesn't stray far musically from early Genesis, containing a healthy (or unhealthy, depending on your tastes) dose of progressive rock. Five flute- and keyboard-heavy instrumentals appear, as well as five vocal numbers with Hackett taking the singing chores. Of the vocal numbers, "The Toast" sounds a bit like Pink Floyd - it's light, with John Hackett's flute stripping away all menace from a melody line that could easily have fit on Dark Side of the Moon.

Self producted debut album as Angelo Santo Lombardi (actually known as Gan Eden - Il Giardino delle Delizie). "Gan Eden" (Hebrew word for "Garden of Eden", "Il Giardino delle Delizie" in italian language) is a new studio project put together by keyboardist Angelo Santo Lombardi with other musicians helping out to give the record a true band sound. Classic 1970s style Italian progressive rock is what they wanted to create. A fantastic new italian project, in the tradition of the best italian symphonic prog of the Seventies (ref: Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso , PFM, Le Orme), this band follows the footsteps of "Torre dell'Alchimista" and "La Maschera di Cera". Il Giardino delle Delizie will become a future classic.
