The Bentley OpenUtilities Substation Design Software development team is pleased to announce the availability of OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Edition Update 12 is integrated software application for intelligent electrical and physical substation design.

New and Changed in OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Edition Update 12
The following items summarize the new features and enhancements in the OpenUtilities Substation CONNECT Edition Update 12 release:

Add ability to select the seed file before creating /editing a title block.
Users are able to select a seed file from templates folder of active workspaces when creating or editing a title block.

Add ability to prompt users to assign a work order before saving a new revision in the Add New Revision dialog.
In BOM Manager, if user wants to add a new revision without adding a work order, the software will prompt that please input a valid Work Order.

Add ability to unforce wire connections by the different ways.
User is able to select different ways to unforce wire connections.
- Allow user to unforce all the force connections in a project.
- Allow user to unforce all the force connection associated with selected potential.
- Allow user to unforce all the force connection associated with selected potential group.

Add ability to maintain forced wire connections during page copy.
Users are able to choose if they maintain forced wire connections when they copy pages or not.

Enhance the destination attribute position on cable diagrams.
When cable symbol's insertion point is located to the right of the wiring diagram symbol's insertion point the following should happen:
1. Cable symbol should be mirrored "Vertically".
2. Text Justifications for any texts should be automatically changed except for any text having "Center" justification. What is Right justified should become Left Justified and vice versa.

Example cable diagram "Cable Symbol":

A = Symbol Graphics
B = Connection Point (Part of Symbol Graphics)
C = Insertion Point
D = Tag Mnemonic (Device ID)
Text Justification: Center Bottom (Center Baseline)
E = Symbol Text Attribute "Destination"
Text Justification: Right Bottom (Right Baseline)
F = Cross Reference Attribute
Text Justification: Left Top

Below image is the expected result:

A = Cable Symbol Graphics (Mirrored Vertically)
B = Connection Point (Part of Symbol Graphics) (Mirrored Vertically)
C = Cable Symbol Insertion Point
D = Tag Mnemonic (Device ID)
Text Justification: Center Bottom (Center Baseline)
E = Symbol Text Attribute "Destination"
Text Justification: Left Bottom (Left Baseline)
F = Cross Reference Attribute
Text Justification: Right Top
G = Wiring Diagram Symbol
H = Wiring Diagram Symbol Insertion Point

Add ability to place 3D Cable/Bus along a selected path.
User is able to place 3D Cable/Bus along a selected path.
- Draw a path using a Bspline Curve.
- Allow user to select Bspline Curves path to place 3D Cable/Bus symbol.

Add ability to allow user to set the variable assignment level as Workspace and Workset level.
User is able to set the variable assignment level as Workspace and Workset level.

Bentley Substation is a design tool for substation design. It uses Promis.e Title functionality for the electrical design. Integrated into the application with is a range of additional tools allowing users to create the 3D physical design of the substation. All of the drawings exist within the same project and sharing the same database. This results in easy navigation between the different drawing modes and shared attribute, part data, and reports. Bentley Substation is unique in that the 3D physical model and the Electrical drawings are all created with the same application and sharing the same common project database.

In addition to the Promis.e functionality and 3D functionality of the MicroStation-based platform, Bentley Substation has specialized design tools for substation design in a 3D environment:

Hook Points - Hook points are placed on symbols to allow them to easily snap onto other symbols. Orientation can be controlled in all three axes (or less). They also bond the connected symbols allowing them to me moved as a unit. This simplifies working in the 3D environment.
Grounding Grid - A special tool allows a grounding network to be placed into the Substation foundation to be used for equipment grounding. Parameters are entered to generate the Grid based on desired spacing. Once generated, the components are automatically included in the bill of materials (BOM). Individual areas of the generated grid can be modified by the user as needed.
Sag Algorithms - Used to graphically generate cables in the substation model with sag. Custom algorithms can also be created by Bentley Professional Services.

These are in addition to the standard benefits of 3D modeling which can speed design and approval while eliminating interference and positioning design errors.
