In the 20th century, with the transformations in aesthetics, new facets of the clarinet were discovered, but it always remained an instrument with unrivaled tonal, dynamic, articulation, and agogic properties. The clarinet can be sensitive and vulgar, discreet and intrusive, mysterious, and unceremoniously transparent. It can evoke the atmosphere of folk fun, mournful lament, or an oriental scene. It can do a lot. And its most admirable ability is its capacity to blend with different instruments, with their colors merging or contrasting. Together, they create completely new, synthetic colors, whose quality depends not only on what it is combined with but also on the register in which the combination takes place.

The works recorded on this album are pieces by composers aware of the clarinet's possibilities. These creators are separated by generations, environments, and styles, but for example, Tansman and Wajnberg have a lot in common. Both were born into Jewish families residing in Poland for years, identifying themselves with Poland. Both emigrated from Poland permanently, but for different reasons and in different directions. Their life stories and artistic careers also unfolded differently. However, it is interesting that the presented works, both by Tansman and Wajnberg, belong to their latest works and were created in a similar time.
