Progressively perilous scenes are exciting and gripping in this action-filled tale.

Shipley (Smugglers) by Charles Anchor is an adventure novel chronicling the risky actions that one man takes in the name of money and love. It is packed with adventure, hazardous scenarios, and formidable foes as one man works to survive precarious circumstances.

Anchor's characters are well developed, descriptively presented and easy to imagine. His settings, from cities to beaches to boats, are described with evocative imagery–brought to life with feelings of ease and contentment.

Themes of greed, wanderlust, and romance are explored effectively through Jerry's changing interactions with other characters and through his inner monologue. The narration from Jerry's perspective is accessible and engaging. A conversational tone and colloquialisms contribute to his unique voice.

Pacing is steady, furthered by action-packed situations. Progressively perilous scenes are exciting and gripping.
