Under the leadership of its Artistic Director, Adam Walker, the Orsino Ensemble is a chamber group of flexible formation with five outstanding wind players at its core. Each is a leader in his or her field, the group’s members committed to showcasing the depth and versatility of the wind chamber repertoire. They expand and reduce the Ensemble’s format as needed across their different programmes. This flexible approach is clearly demonstrated on this their début recording for Chandos, programming works for solo instrument through to the full wind quintet and piano needed for Albert Roussel’s Divertissement.

French Works for Flute is the Chandos début of Adam Walker, ably accompanied by James Baillieu. The pair is joined by the violist Timothy Ridout in Duruflé’s Prélude, récitatif et variations.

All the works of the Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks on this CD are written for string orchestra: the three connected compositions 'Musica serena' (2015, dedicated to the Finnish conductor Juhga Kangas), 'Musica dolorosa' (1983) and 'Musica appassionata' (2002), and also Vasks' Concerto No 2 for Violoncello and Strings, also known as 'Klātbūtne' ('Presence', 2011/12). Vasks' three instrumental pieces here are light-hearted, tragic (dealing with the death of his sister as well as the political situation in Latvia at the time), and passionate, providing an overview of the diversity of his work across a timespan of almost three decades.

What doesn't resonate with the expression 'Fin de Siècle'! It encompasses the rich cultural diversity of the period around 1900, the breadth of which still amazes us today. It is best approached in individual works, for example, in the music from different European spheres, which Duo Aust presents in its new GENUIN CD. Bettina Aust, clarinet, and Robert Aust, piano, have won international awards and have been sponsored by Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now and the German Academic Exchange Service. Johann Sebastian Bach is commonly understood as the starting point of the violin repertoire. But there was unaccompanied violin music before him, too — and it is truly exciting! The renowned baroque violinist Nadja Zwiener presents this music with her solo debut album on GENUIN. Femmes d’Espagne (Spanish Women) is a tribute to eight composers, most of whom are also pianists, who made Andalusia their musical homeland and spread it all over the world. Just as she usually does in her piano recitals, the versatile Paula Coronas has united in this record acclaimed authors with others not yet much known and in need for a revival of their music, thus emphasizing her unwavering personal commitment to Spanish music of the last two centuries. The interpretations of the malagueña (a traditional flamenco variety from Málaga), forged from the extensive knowledge of the foremost works of piano literature, dignify and update these pages. This recording means a contribution for future generations to gain an understanding and to become aware of the historical relevance of those figures that ennobled the meridional folkloric music styles and turned them into a distinctly Spanish pianism: a genuine and extraordinary music art.

This new recording from Martin Baker and the Westminster Cathedral Choir features the three masses of William Byrd, paired with the Latin hymn Ave verum corpus. The album celebrates Byrd's Catholic liturgical music in two ways. Most obviously, it addresses great and timeless works. But at the same time it reminds us that the revival of Byrd's music in the late nineteenth century was pioneered by Roman Catholic church choirs. The recording celebrates a revival of Catholic choral traditions no less than it celebrates the works themselves.

'Assembly' showcases carefully curated singles, fan favourites, and archival rarities from the Joe Strummer solo catalogue. This 16-track compilation features three previously unreleased versions of classic Clash tracks, including the never-before-heard 'Junco Partner (Acoustic)' and electrifying live performances of 'Rudie Can't Fail' and 'I Fought the Law', the latter two of which were recorded by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros at London's Brixton Academy on November 24, 2001. George Harrison's passion for introducing the world to new music expressed itself in May of 1974 when he created his own new label - Dark Horse Records. The label contained a variety of talented artists on its roster, including George himself. 'Assembly' marks the first new Joe Strummer title released via the newly relaunched Dark Horse Records.

Super rare Funk collectible from Las Vegas released on Starburst records in 1976 and although the label seems to have been based in Las Vegas the album was recorded at various studios around Hollywood. The album did appear in two different sleeve designs comprising mainly of raw funk along with some ballads this album has become more collectable in recent years.
