Magnetoelastic Vibrations and Stability of Magnetically Active Plates and Shells

Magnetoelastic Vibrations and Stability of Magnetically Active Plates and Shells by Gevorg Y. Baghdasaryan , Marine A. Mikilyan
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 284 Pages | ISBN : 3031603060 | 28.9 MB

This book introduces the reader to methods of mathematical modeling and solving non-stationary (dynamic) problems of the theory of magnetoelasticity, as well as to give an idea of the wealth of physical effects caused by the interaction of electromagnetic and mechanical phenomena in magnetically active elastic thin bodies. The studies are mainly limited to a model of isotropic body under the assumption of small deformations. In the first chapter of the book, based on the basic connected nonlinear equations and relations of mechanics and quasi-static electrodynamics of continuum media, a system of equations of magnetoelasticity, surface conditions, and governing equations describing the behavior of disturbances in a magnetoactive medium interacting with an external magnetic field is obtained. On this basis, in Chapters 2 and 3, using the main equations and relations of magnetoelastic vibrations and stability of magnetically soft, thin plates and shells are obtained. By solving specific applied problems, a number of qualitative and quantitative results were identified, caused by the interaction of mechanical and magnetic phenomena in ferromagnetic thin bodies. An approximate formula is obtained to determine magnetohydrodynamic pressure on the oscillating surfaces of plate flowing by supersonic flow of perfectly conducting gas in the presence of magnetic field. This formula is the generalization of well-known formula obtained on the basis of the classical piston theory of gas dynamics in the case of magneto-gas-dynamic flow. On this basis, it became possible to solve complex problems of aeromagnetoelasticity. In the 4th and 5th chapters magnetoelastic processes in superconducting thin shells located in stationary and non-stationary magnetic fields are studied.

The British Police and Home Food Production in the Great War: Police as Ploughmen, 1917–1918

The British Police and Home Food Production in the Great War: Police as Ploughmen, 1917–1918 by Mary Fraser
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 228 Pages | ISBN : 3031587421 | 8.2 MB

This book explores the role of the British Police in home food production during the First World War, a critical time when decreasing food imports threatened population starvation around the country. Drawing from the police’s most popular weekly journal, the book provides insights into policemen’s lives, the political context in which they worked, and the pressures on police forces throughout Britain during the Great War. Unlike neighbouring countries in Europe, Britain avoided major food riots due to government control of farming from December 1916, which prioritised agriculture to feed the nation. The police force released over 400 policemen in England and Scotland to serve as ploughmen from March 1917 for around two months. Almost a third of policemen throughout Britain had previous agricultural backgrounds and so were welcomed by farmers as experienced workers. This book illustrates not only why the food crisis arose and the state of British farming during the war, but it also sheds light on how individual police forces were approached and encouraged to release their policemen, at a time when police forces themselves were critically short of staff due to recruitment into the war. The author discusses how the release of policemen into agriculture as first responders benefitted the police and provided surveillance over home food production in the national interest.

Post-Asian Financial Crisis Reforms in Thailand: A 20 Year Retrospective on the Banking Industry by Wanxue Lu
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 188 Pages | ISBN : 9819737702 | 9.4 MB

This book is distinguished for its longitudinal, evidence-based policy analysis concerning the impacts of financial regulatory reforms post-crisis, thereby enriching the comprehension of policy impact mechanisms at a micro-level. Distinguished from collections of past events; this monograph is a lens through which the intricate relationships between regulatory changes, market dynamics, and organizational behavior are explored and understood. The study is devoted to a thorough 20-year retrospective analysis of Thailand's financial regulatory reforms and their complex effects on the commercial banking sector. It uncovers how these reforms, particularly the increase in foreign participation, have paradoxically degraded market competition while also not fully achieving their intended goals in financial technology advancement. This nuanced understanding underscores the book's impact in rethinking policy effectiveness and market dynamics in a global context. Moreover, by offering a unique blend of macro- and micro-perspectives, the book delves into how these regulatory impacts materialize at the organizational level. Through an in-depth examination of business practices and governance in banking, it provides vital insights into how family-owned banks in Thailand have navigated economic crises, transitioning from ownership control to management control models.

This book is about child sexual abuse in India. Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a serious and wide-spread problem in India as it is in many parts of the world today. The trauma associated with sexual abuse can contribute to arrested development, as well as a host of psychological and emotional disorders, that some children and adolescents may never overcome. This edited book discusses the nature and incidence of the sexual abuse of minors in India and presents an overview of research findings to date. Socio-cultural and familial risk factors involved in CSA are discussed. Common symptoms and disorders associated with sexual abuse are outlined. The book also provides guidance on child protective services, coordinated response in preventing child abuse, mental health, and law enforcement. Finally, it discusses cognitive behavioral interventions to overcome the trauma caused due to sexual abuse.

Brief CBT and Science-Based Tailoring for Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults by Thompson E. Davis III, Eric A. Storch
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 340 Pages | ISBN : 3031607457 | 13.3 MB

This book highlights the ongoing trend of brief treatments in psychotherapy for child and adolescent populations. Whereas their therapeutic predecessors may have taken 15 to 20 one-hour sessions or more, these newer therapies may begin to alleviate symptoms in only weeks, days, or even hours on the same day. Interest in child and adolescent brief and intensive therapies is currently at an all-time high on the heels of research showing impressive results for these interventions. Treatments such as One-Session Treatment for specific phobias which occurs in only one, three-hour session or Intensive Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy with Exposure and Response Prevention for obsessive-compulsive disorder which occurs 3-5 times weekly in 1-3-hour sessions over several weeks, are prominent examples. This volume builds on this growing interest and the emerging child and adolescent research, summarizing the efficacy of these interventions. Further, this volume will include key introductory chapters on the emergence of brief and intensive therapies, the ethics of their use, their cost-effectiveness, and the current state of the science. Brief therapies for specific disorders and via specific methodologies comprise separate chapters. Each chapter incorporates an exemplar case study (including a case overview, formulation/conceptualization, treatment description, follow-up, and recommendations for refractory cases). Also included are multicultural insights and ethical considerations. Furthermore guidance is provided on how to use the current and ongoing evidence base to inform formulation and treatment. This volume is timely and thorough in its presentation of the relevant literature and provides a much-needed resource for students, practitioners, and researchers alike.
