"Expansions" is McCoy Tyner's tenth studio album and was recorded in August 1968. It was released in 1969, and stylistically pushes the boundaries of modern mainstream jazz.

"The Cape Verdean Blues" followed Song for My Father as another album by Horace Silver that was inspired by his father, who hailed from the island nation of Cape Verde. The Cape Verdean Blues featured the added contribution of legendary bop trombonist J.J. Johson, whom Silver had wanted to work with for quite some time leading up to this album.

The post-bop opus Blackstone Legacy is the seminal debut album by trumpeter Woody Shaw. Originally released in 1971 on Contemporary Records, the groundbreaking album was inspired by the sociopolitical ills of the '60s. In their review, Allmusic called the album, "…a landmark recording, and a pivot point in the history of post-modern music".

Originally broadcast on radio in France more than five decades ago, these long-lost tracks were unearthed in the vaults of the ORTF (Office of French Radio and Television, now Maison de Radio France) and are available for the first time on this album. The iconic jazz organist is joined on 1964 and 1965 studio and live recordings by Woody Shaw on trumpet, bandleader Nathan Davis on saxophone and drummer Billy Brooks, plus guest musicians from France, Italy and other countries. "Double Take", a collaborative album featuring trumpeters Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw, was originally released by Blue Note in 1985. The record includes original works by Hubbard and Shaw as well as covers by Lee Morgan, Clifford Brown and others. Double Take has appearances by musicians: Cecil McBee, Carl Allen, Mulgrew Miller and Kenny Garrett.

The second of two historic 1980s albums starring innovative trumpeters Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw, this hard bop session also showcases Kenny Garrett on alto saxophone and flute, Mulgrew Miller on piano, Ray Drummond on bass and Carl Allen on drums. The album draws its title from one of the tracks, a cover of Sonny Stitt's 1957 song.

Azar Lawrence is an American jazz saxophonist. By the time Azar Lawrence released "Bridge Into the New Age" in 1974 - his first recording as a bandleader - he had already built himself an enviable reputation as a saxophone player alongside the likes of McCoy Tyner, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw.
