We don’t often hear from Dutch duo Ralph van Reijendam and Robbert Kok aka Tangent, and so when a hint of their electroacoustic experiments crop up on the horizon — usually on the n5MD imprint — you can bet it’s going to be impactful. Evolutionary Cycles contains all the synth odyssey beats of a Tangerine Dream record, with an ambient dub sensibility for fully traversing the contemporary composition sphere. The clatter of glitched drum programming ekes out from the dense fog of electronics on the likes of ‘Empty Waves’ and ‘The Appearance of Forms’, making this release a must for anyone who’s into Pessimist.
