The instigators were a handful of artists with a desire to break from tradition, developing the samba rhythms with the influence of cool American jazz to find a music with such a warm soul and natural rhythm that no-one can help but tap and sway to its beat. Bossa Nova is palm trees swaying, it is like melting sugar in hot coffee, it is the setting sun and warm sand underfoot. It is the sound and beat of Brazil, it is one of the world's coolest musical styles and it remains to this day one of the world's great musical treasures.

The year 1976 was crucial for the evolution of heavy metal, as landmark albums like Rainbow's Rising and Scorpions' Virgin Killer began to reshape the genre. Perhaps none was quite as important as Judas Priest's sophomore effort, Sad Wings of Destiny, which simultaneously took heavy metal to new depths of darkness and new heights of technical precision. Building on the hard prog of bands like Queen and Wishbone Ash, plus the twin-guitar innovations of the latter and Thin Lizzy, Sad Wings fused these new influences with the gothic doom of Black Sabbath, the classical precision of Deep Purple, and the tight riffery of the more compact Led Zeppelin tunes. Priest's prog roots are still readily apparent here, particularly on the spacy ballad "Dreamer Deceiver," the multi-sectioned "Victim of Changes," and the softer sonic textures that appear from time to time. But if Priest's style was still evolving, the band's trademarks are firmly in place – the piercing, operatic vocals of Rob Halford and the tightly controlled power riffing of guitarists K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton.

Given the late-2010s influx of symphonic easy listening albums reviving old rock and R&B records, it's not surprising that a living, breathing singer would take advantage of this trend. Michael Bolton is the one who steps into this breach, issuing A Symphony of Hits in early 2019. Recorded with the West Australian Philharmonic Orchestra, the album still contains hints of slick adult contemporary – there's nary a string to be heard on a stiffly funky "Soul Provider," the whole thing has a patina of radio-ready gloss – yet it delivers what it promises: it has Michael Bolton singing with an orchestra.

Freeworld was originally formed in Memphis in 1987 by sax player Dr. Herman Green and a young bass player Richard Cushing and quickly became a Beale Street staple playing rock, soul, blues, jazz, reggae and gospel. The band has had a rotation of players over the years constituting dozens of current and former members. Green passed away in 2020, but Cushing has maintained the band. Today, he still plays bass, provides the backing vocals, and is the writer or co-writer of most of the original songs on the album. Sax player Peter Climie also shares most of the writing or co-writing on the album. More Love is the band’s eighth album.
