As a significant metaphor in Steve Roach's sonic milieu, the ever-evolving sky helped inspired these lush and enveloping emotionally engaging atmospheric meditations. The album’s four longform compositions slowly unfurl harmonic wonder and timeless spectral melodies balanced with grounded mantra-like rhythmic elements; all combine with a yearning to merge into infinite realms of feeling and expansion.

Agree to disagree: A selected Krautrock discography. Krautrock, what is it anyway? A genre, a derogative term, a song by Faust, … or: a welcome (and recurring) opportunity to talk about all of this. The music associated with the term in question has eagerly been canonized. From the enthusiastic and idiosyncratic ramblings of Julian Cope's "Krautrocksampler" to encyclopaedic approaches like Alan and Stephen Freeman's "Crack in the Cosmic Egg", there are plenty of books to read and lists to discuss: Who's in, who isn't? The quarrels and disputes surrounding the terms "Krautrock" and "Kosmische Musik" are a testament to their enduring relevance and fascination. I won't get into the weeds discussing how to separate one from the other - for all those who do want to, the book "Krautrock Eruption" by Wolfgang Seidel addresses some of those questions.

This CD sketches a portrait of the musical reality of the British Isles during the first half of the 18th century. The huge success of the Italian concerto grosso was a response to the necessity of freeing music from a secondary role to which it found itself confined, notably in France with ballet music. Unaffected by the rivalry between French and Italian music, the British seemed to be attracted by purely instrumental music; the concerto grosso consequently afforded them a freshness, a boldness, and a hint of unique maestria that held an immediate appeal.

Completed in 1877, Brahms’s remarkable and impressive Symphony No. 1 was the result of a fourteen-year gestation period and established the composer as the leading German symphonist of his generation. This inaugural issue in a major new cycle on Naxos brings together the internationally acclaimed London Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Marin Alsop, fêted by The Guardian as “…well on her way to becoming one of the best Brahms interpreters”.

Obliteration is imminent: As The World Dies return with their triumphant second offering. “Nebula” is a colossal lesson in crushing death metal and cosmic mysticism. “‘Nebula’ is the quintessence of what As The World Dies is all about,” band leader and scene veteran Scott Fairfax says. “We pushed our musical boundaries and wanted to create an album that was both brutal and thought-provoking. It’s heavier, darker and more profound than anything we’ve done before.”

Patterson Hood developed such a strong lyrical and musical voice in his work with the Drive-By Truckers that it's surprising how much it differs from the tone and approach of his solo work. 2004's Killers and Stars and 2009's Murdering Oscar (And Other Love Songs) were assembled from songs that clearly wouldn't fit the DBT's, both musically and thematically, and 2012's Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance was an ambitious effort to create a song cycle that existed in a separate (though not unrelated) musical universe from his band. Hood's fourth solo album, 2025's Exploding Trees and Airplane Screams, in many respects picks up where Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance left off.

Smitty is unequivocally not mellowing with age. This set finds him physically threatening some poor slob in "Get Outta My Way" and generally living up to the boast of the title track. As his profile finally rises, Smith is receiving a little high-profile assistance - Ron Levy produced the set and handles keyboards, while the Memphis Horns add their punchy interjections wherever appropriate.

Sometimes it’s okay to judge a book by its cover. Depicting a down-and-out Frank Sinatra entrenched in his own private world while glamorous couples dance and swirl around him, oblivious to his presence and condition, the artwork to the aptly titled No One Cares testifies on behalf of the music and moods within the record’s grooves. One of the crooner’s top-flight ballads efforts, the 1959 Capitol effort again finds him pairing with sympathetic arranger Gordon Jenkins and inhabiting each note of every song.
Often viewed as the sister album to 1957’s Where Are You?, this third pairing of Sinatra and Jenkins yields slower tempos, more deliberate textures, and lonelier emotions. A profound sense of tragedy burrows into both the luscious strings and Sinatra’s timbre, laced with ache, wanderlust, and dismay…

Invisible are from Argentina and they released 3 albums in the seventies before calling it quits. Their second album named Durazno Sangrando from 1975 is to many the peak, the story is based on the book of Carl Jung and has very solid lyrics besides music made by the head of the band Luis Alberto Spinetta. It has some great instrumental sections like the opening track Encadenado al ánima who is the longest from here. Not very much to add, while is pleasent most of the time, on some particular passages is little going on even has some subltle jazz symphonic arrangements in overall sound.

James Murray and Francis M Gri's Remote Redux is a delicate and original response to distance and closeness as expressed by the Japanese concept Ma, known also as negative space. It's a place of elegant dimension where Gri's graceful piano motifs and bowed guitar figures are carefully framed within the free flowing surrounds of Murray's warm synth sequences and nuanced sound design. Having released each other's work on their Slowcraft and KrysaliSound imprints James and Francis naturally extended this exchange into a remote London-Milan collaboration. The resulting debut is an unhurried collection of exquisitely crafted minimal ambient, tender and contemplative, a listening experience that simultaneously explores and distorts our awareness of separation and togetherness.

With her first album for Decca (and overall second full-length), the boundary-pushing and award-winning harpist Ashley Jackson just might become a household name. Jackson fuses music and storytelling in Take Me to the Water with a style that's already strong enough to call her own, based on this and 2023's Ennanga, as well as her 2020 "musical documentary" In Song and Spirit (based on Harriet Jacobs's memoir Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl).
