No other artist of the rock & roll era compares to Prince. He was the rare combination of a visionary pop conceptualist and master musician who could capture the sounds he imagined, a quality that fueled his remarkable success in the 1980s. Ideas came to Prince so quickly, they couldn't be contained on his own records, either with or without his backing band the Revolution.

Stranger Things: Soundtrack from the Netflix Series, Season 4 will include key music covering various classic eras and styles as featured in "Stranger Things 4." The soundtrack album is conceptualized and produced by The Duffer Brothers and Nora Felder (Grammy and Emmy nominee Nora Felder has served as music supervisor for "Stranger Things" since the show's inception and was nominated for a Music Supervision Grammy the first year the category was recognized by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences). The compilation album is produced by The Duffer Brothers and 2x Grammy nominee Timothy J. Smith.

Girl From the North Country, the Broadway musical that reimagines the songs of Bob Dylan, will be preserved with an original cast recording by Sony Music/Legacy Recordings. The album, which was recorded on March 9 ahead of the Broadway shutdown, will be released in digital and streaming formats on August 20. It had previously been announced for release last spring. As previously reported, the show, written and directed by Conor McPherson, will resume performances at the Belsco Theatre on October 13.The cast album will showcase the original Broadway company, including Mare Winningham, Todd Almond, Jeannette Bayardelle, Jennifer Blood, Law Terrell Dunford, Matthew Frederick Harris, Caitlin Houlahan, Robert Joy, Marc Kudisch, Luba Mason, Ben Mayne, Matt McGrath, Tom Nelis, Colton Ryan, Jay O. Redbone was a Los Angeles-based group led by Native American Pat and Lolly Vegas. They hit paydirt in 1974 with the million-seller 'Come and Get Your Love.' Lead singers Pat and Lolly Vegas had previously worked under their own names, appearing in the 1965 film It's a Bikini World prior to forming Redbone. Their first success as Redbone came in 1970 with 'Maggie' on Epic. 'The Witch Queen of New Orleans' did somewhat better the next year.

Kaleidoscope's second album is the best non-compilation showcase of their legendary eclecticism and versatility. It takes in a blues-rocking cover of Willie Cobbs' "You Don't Love Me"; Doug Kershaw's Cajun "Louisiana Man"; a scary old folk song ("Greenwood Sidee," about a woman who kills her two babies); a hilarious country-ish indictment of marriage ("Baldheaded End of a Broom"); two good acid-folk originals ("Life Will Pass You By" and "I Found Out"); and two completely dissimilar ten-minute-plus originals: the Middle Eastern "Taxim," and the psychedelic workout "Beacon from Mars." Every one of these disparate styles is performed with authority and commitment, and the result still has the power to amaze.

To hear some disco haters tell it, disco died with the 1970s. But that's hardly true, disco was alive and well throughout the 1980s and 1990s, only it was being called dance music and dance-pop instead of disco. Released in 1983, Back to the Front demonstrated that there was still a market for the type of disco-funk that put Peter Brown on the map in 1977 with the dancefloor classic "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me?" This vinyl LP, which contains the dance hits "Overnight Sensation" and "Baby Gets High," isn't much different from Brown's late-'70s recordings; he was still providing plenty of disco-funk in 1983, although the term disco was no longer in vogue.

As an original member of heavy metal forefathers Judas Priest, Tipton has engaged audiences for nearly a quarter of a century with his aggressive yet melodic guitar playing. His solo album recorded in the interim between Priest frontmen displays a wide range of styles. Blues, classical, thrash, and traditional British metal all coalesce in this hard-rockin' album, and Tipton (who also sings) gets to work in formats not common to Priest, such as the thrashing punk rendition of "Paint It Black" and the majestic instrumental title track. He even ends the album playing a banjo.

Coming to the close of his tenure with Epic records, Duke's great work seemed to be overshadowed by bunk. At the same time, he was becoming an in-demand producer with assignments from Jeffrey Osborne, Phillip Bailey, and Deniece Williams filling his schedule. Guardian of the Light reflects that strain. Released in 1983, Guardian of the Light also had the added baggage of a hard-to-follow concept of a fictional character's mystical exploits. This being George Duke, although the idea is odd, he was sure to get some good songs done here.

With a better selection of songs and tighter production than its predecessor, Centipede, Jackson's sophomore set was the strongest of her '80s output. The breezy midtempo number "Always Wanting Something," the groovy dance cut "Ticket to Love" and "You Send the Rain Away," a sunny duet with Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, are all fine moments. The title track, an annoying rhetoric of synthesizer and vocal effects, and the dry "If You Don't Call (You Don't Care)" are wastes of time. But otherwise, this is an enjoyable effort.
